The best sports teams are comprised of people who know how to play to each other's strengths and work together to score goals. These same skills are what make Eris Property Group a force to be reckoned with. The Group's various divisions are each strong players in their own right, but combined, they are able to offer a complete one-stop property shop to Eris clients, with expertise embedded in every aspect of the property value chain.

A fully integrated property development and services group, Eris provides a range of commercial property skills in the South African and sub-Saharan African markets. Its property management division has a total GLA of 1.36 million square metres under management, across a portfolio of properties valued at more than R22 billion. The property development side of the business has developed properties valued at more than R36.3 billion since 1993, including more than 115 projects in South Africa and 19 in the rest of Africa.

"Our aim is to be the first-choice property development and services group through service excellence, which is highly evident in our innovative nature," says CEO Barend de Loor. "We want to be the market leader in our industry by applying our core values and by adding value for our clients."

Eris was formed in 2008, following the restructure of RMB Properties (Pty) Ltd (RMBP), which had been a prominent property development and property services company in the South African property industry since 1987. In 2012, Eris undertook another step in its evolution with Momentum Metropolitan Holdings Limited, Africa's third largest life insurance company, becoming a major shareholder. De Loor says this strategically places Eris in a prime position for growth in South Africa and Sub-Saharan African markets.

Targeting opportunities beyond South Africa's borders is the Momentum Africa Real Estate Fund (MAREF). This is a joint venture between sister companies Momentum Global Investment Management (in London) and Eris.

Eris is the fund advisor to the $205 Million MAREF fund, which is aimed at long-term institutional investors as a capital growth offering, currently focused on eight African countries that have shown consistent economic growth. MAREF invests in and develop Grade A commercial real estate including offices, logistics, light industrial, healthcare and student accommodation in sub Saharan Africa excluding South Africa. Our key target countries are Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius and Nigeria but we are happy to consider projects with strong tenant covenants in other countries. Within South Africa, Eris not only offers property management and development services, but also asset management, investments and fund management, leasing and investment broking, retail services, facilities management, property valuation, corporate real estate solutions and, student accommodation under its sub-brand RISE Student Living.

Eris has successfully raised an initial R500 million for its social-impact student accommodation company (SASSAI) South Africa Student Accommodation Impact Investments) from a stellar consortium of domestic and international investors. The fund is targeting R2Billion in raised equity capital, the minimum investment amount is R50 million, and the fund is hoping to attract the attention of fund managers and pension funds, or those investors with long-terms investment horizons.

Eris is a member of the South African Property Association, the South African Council of Shopping Centres, the Green Building Council of South Africa, the Women's Property Network, the Investment Property Databank, and has scooped scores of industry awards over the years.

In late 2020, Eris moved its head office in Johannesburg into one of its own developments, The Marc, in Sandton and consolidated their Pretoria and Sandton offices into this prime premisses.. The relocation to the prestigious multi-use, multi-tenant 5-star green-rated premises dare part of a long-term plan for the future growth of the business, which also includes investment in technology solutions to continuously improve operational efficiencies and support business decision-making.
